Earth Care

In 1990, the 202nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) adopted a resolution which encouraged congregations to rethink their relationship with God’s creation.  Specifically, the resolution included a “Call to Restore the Creation,” in which the General Assembly recognizes, among other things, that restoring creation:

  • is a central concern that is to be incorporated into the life and mission of the church at every level;
  • is not a short-term concern to be handled in a few years, but a continuing task to which the nation and the world must give attention and commitment; and
  • is a calling that requires both “covenant seriousness” and “practical awareness that cherishing God’s creation enhances the ability of the church to achieve its other goals.”

In 2015, First Presbyterian successfully completed the process to be certified as an Earth Care Congregation.  First Presbyterian Church is honored to be listed among those Presbyterian congregations who have committed themselves to good stewardship of God’s creation.
